5 Things to Do in Pisa (Other Than WordCamp!)

If you’re thinking about joining WordCamp Pisa and don’t live nearby, you’re probably wondering: “Why should I go all the way to Pisa? Will there be anything fun and interesting to do besides WordCamp?”

The answer is yes! To help you plan your trip, here’s my list of the Top 5 Things to Do in Pisa.

1. Play with the Leaning Tower

If you’ve come all this way, a visit to Piazza dei Miracoli is a must. The Leaning Tower is the undisputed star, and you’ll probably want to take the classic photo where it looks like you’re holding it up. The fun part? Everyone finds new, creative ways to do it—why not try your own version?

2. Aperitivo in Piazza delle Vettovaglie

By day it’s a lively fruit and vegetable market, but in the evening it transforms into one of Pisa’s nightlife hotspots. With cozy bars and affordable prices, it’s perfect for an evening out. Don’t forget to try cecina (a chickpea flatbread) in focaccia—a local favorite to end the night.

3. Dive into nature

Just steps from the Tower, you’ll find Pisa’s Botanical Garden and Museum, founded in 1543 and considered the first university botanical garden in the world. A little green haven right in the heart of the city.

If you’ve got more time, head out to the Migliarino, San Rossore, Massaciuccoli Natural Park for nature walks or even horseback riding.

4. Explore the exhibitions at Palazzo Blu

Located on the Lungarno in the historic center, Palazzo Blu hosts major art exhibitions. Entry is affordable, and you can even download the audioguides straight to your phone. During WordCamp, you’ll be able to visit a special exhibition dedicated to the Belle Époque.

5. Stroll along the Lungarno Mediceo

To wrap up your day, nothing beats a romantic walk along the Lungarno Mediceo. Continue towards Lungarno Buozzi and you’ll find great spots for a riverside drink.
